Hello Denmark! Søster Severson's Adventures in Sønderborg Denmark, Dec 21, 2020 Week 35
Hej hej!!!
I guess I will start out by apologizing for not telling anyone I was going to Denmark... lol sorry! Four of us Sisters made it over here which means we still have 12 waiting- so exactly half of the danish sisters are in Denmark and half are in the states!!
We found out that we would be coming the day before I was transferred to Cary so the last two weeks have been a good time, definitely not a long time, and I was literally SO SAD to leave the NCRM. I think when I first got reassigned I didn't want to let NC feel like my home or my mission because it wasn't where I was originally called. But after I realized I would probably be there for more than half my mission, I finally let myself get attached and invested in the people and it was so worth it, I fell in love with the NCRM but it made saying goodbye so hard.
It has definitely been a weird couple days transitioning from the NCRM to Den Danske Mission. 263 to 36 Missionaries was a leap. My last area in Cary was just under 8 miles across but my new area in Sønderborg covers the entire Danish/German boarder, so also a leap. Speaking Danish all the time actually has been the easiest leap- I think because its something I've wanted to be able to do for so long, that now that I can it just feels super natural. Obviously I'm still super confused a lot, especially when talking to natives or people who have been here for a long time, but it hasn't been so bad and it's fun being new and a little confused. Sister Carter has been way good at helping me too.
I honestly don't really know what to write about, this week was half NC/DK but it all feels like it's been 2 days and now I cant remember anything important.
Uhhhhh our flights got super messed up so we ended up flying through 4 different countries and running across 3 giant airports. Sejt.
Fun fact about being in DK for winter is that it gets dark super early so we are required to use a happy light (lykkelig lys aka the funniest word ever) for at least 30 minutes a day. We literally just turn on this super bright light and stare directly into it. Sjovt.
My spiritual thought is a shout out to something Sister Burrell the last standing in the most iconic trio shared in our companion study. She talked about the stripping warriors and how the 2000 were never described in the scriptures as "strong" until the remaining 60 Ammonite sons joined them "then they were strong". I know it has been a long wait and hard journey for us to get to Denmark but they are so grateful we are here. 60 when compared to 2000 shouldn't make that big of a difference, neither should 4, but the Lord has been preparing and preserving us for this time to reinforce and strengthen this mission. (At least that's what I'm telling myself when I feel super useless with Danish lol) But there is also something to be said about the idea of the Ammonites giving up *most* of their sons to the cause, vs when they gave everything and *all* their sons. It really highlights the difference in strength we have when we consecrate everything to the Lord. He blesses us as we try to serve with ALL our heart, might, mind, and strength.
Ok lol now the pictures aka why you all came- sorry there aren't a ton of DK pics but shout out to the sorority squad and lykkelig lys and few Sønderborg pics I could snag on our walk.
Love you all!!
