A very Merry Danish Christmas to you all!! Glædlig Jul!! Søster Severson's Adventures in Sønderborg, Dec 28, 2020 Week 36
A very Merry Danish Christmas to you all!! Glædlig Jul!! This week was *quite* exciting.
We finished quarantine just in time for Julaften!! Super sejt. Got to go out and contact and knock doors for the first time, which was super fun. Of course because it's the holidays and freezing cold and raining no one has wanted to talk to us. But it be like that sometimes. We keep trying.
Danish Christmas was pretty lit, they celebrate on the 24th (Julaften) so we went over to a member family's house and they made us traditional Danish dinner, which was delicious. We also love the Danes because most of what they eat is already gluten-free #win. Then we did a present parade where you put all the gifts in one room and then form a chain and pass them to the front room to put them under the Christmas tree. Then they sent the kids (and us lol) out while they light the tree. I thought they were just turning the lights on. But nah, they put full real candles on it. Then we came out and held hands and danced around the tree and sang songs. I was super confused by it all, but it was super fun.
We also had English and Romanian Christmases. English with our branch president and his family, which was super sweet. We played board games and talked a lot. Romanian was a little strange can't even lie- we had some super traditional foods... meat jello for example... literally picture cold savory jello with all the undesirable parts of a pig in it. It was bizarre.
I gave a talk in church, which I was told was understandable. So I count it as a #win. It sometimes feels like the Danish comes in waves. Like on Christmas eve I could understand everything that was being talked about with the Vestergaards... When we had a lesson with our friends Kira og Bjarne I literally couldn't stay awake because I was tired and had no idea what the heck they were saying. Haha learning curve??? Forhåbentlig??
Åndelig Tænke:
A C.S. Lewis quote for y'all:
"When we see the Face of God, we shall know that we have always known it."
I love this quote because it is a reminder of where and who we came from and also a promise to those who seek after Him. We know we are children of a loving Heavenly Father. We have been created in His image. Because of that, when we meet Him I believe we will see parts of ourselves that we thought were our own but were actually His. It is also a promise that the more we seek to come to Him, and learn of Him in this life- the more familiar He will be to us in the next. What does it mean to you to know and be known by God?
Dansk: Jul- pronounced exactly the same as 'yule' =Christmas, God Jul 'gool yool'= merry Christmas. I lige mod= wha everyone says to us when we wish them merry Christmas, not sure what it literally means but people keep saying it to us...
