Survived the Hurricane and Earthquake Søster Severson's Mission Adventures Week 16 Fayetteville, NC
Hi all!! Not much to report on this week. We had three people we were actively teaching all go completely MIA for like two weeks but this week we were able to get back into contact with all three of them so that's good!!
We had some lessons with some super awesome
members and this week and were even able to go eat outside with some of
them! There is a new couple in the ward and the wife is GF and she made
us the absolute best gluten-free pizza. She is so cute she also trained
my Relief Society President Nia from BYU Hawaii when they were both
Missionaries which it just so crazy to me!! #BLESSED
We
are teaching a really awesome lady named Jill who we haven't been able
to meet in person because she is older and we teach her over the phone,
but we get to go over and have a lesson with her outside this week and
we are so excited!! Sister Butler and I are placing bets on what she
actually looks like because we have no idea.
Spiritual thought is from President Henderson's weekly email about obedience:
Obedience
becomes that portal through which the Spirit can be with you as a
missionary, through which you can become consecrated, by which miracles
can actually happen to you. When we are obedient, our spirit can become
aligned and in tune with the Spirit of the Lord, and in line with the
direction that the Lord would have us go. So that’s it? Just be
obedient? There’s more to it.
If you think about it, Laman and Lemuel did many of the things that Nephi did. They traveled back to Jerusalem to get the brass plates as their father commanded. They went to Laban’s to obtain them. They marched through the wilderness for eight years. They helped build the boat under Nephi’s direction, and set forth on the sea with him.
So why wasn’t their obedience rewarded with the joy and understanding that Nephi experienced? Why didn’t it work? It was because their hearts weren’t changed. They were not trying to align their will with the Lord’s.

 As
Missionaries we are asked to serve with all of our "heart might mind and
strength." I have found sometimes serving with your might and
strength is even easier than fully serving with your heart and mind. But
being willing to turn all your wants and desires over to God is what is
going to bring you the most joy! It makes no sense to serve if we
aren't going to serve willingly. If we want the blessings we have to
recognize that obedience is about  more than physical action.
(Lol only picture this week is our Facebook cover photo that we took in front of a cool clock ahah sorry folks)
Warmly,
Søster Severson
