Fasting and Counseling in the Woods-Søster Severson's Adventures in Ballerup Denmark August 30, 2021 Week 71
Hej!
Today we met with Peter, a friend who had met with the missionaries a while ago. He had been taught most of the lessons, but it had been a minute since any missionaries had met with him. We weren't expecting anything revolutionary from our visit, as he hadn't asked to be baptized right away. But as we met, I became more intent on listening. I began to feel the spirit of truth through our discussion, and I was honestly touched by Peter's testimony. God hears and answers our prayers. A favorite scripture comes to mind in Matthew 6:6 "But thou, when thou prayest enter into thy closet, and when thou hast shut thy door, pray to thy Father which is in secret; and thy Father which seeth in secret shall reward thee openly. "
I'm always surprised when someone reminds me of something I'm supposed to be teaching them. Maybe it's God's way of reminding me He loves me enough to drop hints of personal revelation into my daily path? Maybe I'm reminded I can hear God's voice if I actively listen. Things to ponder...
This week President Mattsson challenged us to fast, then go to the woods, pray and counsel as a companionship. Even though fasting is never easy for me, I experienced a real sense of peace and tranquility in the beautiful woods near our place. As the Tech Sisters, we had the time to make new goals around our Instagram for the mission, and we decided it would be beneficial for us to go on Tech splits with various companionships. Coming on a mission, I never dreamed I would be working on social media platforms. But here I am! Not only are we finding joy in creating new content, but also we've been able to teach and train new missionaries how to reach new groups to spread the gospel.
Curiously, so many of our new Danish missionaries have been really nervous about going back to their personal accounts and posting mission content. I taught our entire mission how to make and post Reels (short videos with music) on Instagram, and our Icelandic Elders are REALLY into it. I feel almost a parental kind of pride that I've trained a new generation of LDS content makers in Iceland. Can't wait to see what gems they have in store.
If you follow me on Instagram (@paris.severson) you'll know I've been self reflecting on my journey as a missionary. I quoted the poem "My life is but a weaving between the Lord and Me." My question for the week, how has the Lord changed you?
